Pediatric Associates Health Plan Press Releases August 09, 2007
Pediatric Associates Health Plan selects ika Group for Its
Online Medical Management Systems with Providers
Pediatric Associates Health Plan, a Medicaid health plan
exclusivity for children, has entered into an agreement to
implement ika Groups’ web-based
iProHEDIS which is a
comprehensive transactional Health Employer Data
Information Set (HEDIS) reporting system that will
significantly enhance quality of service to members,
reduce administrative costs and provide a competitive edge
in the health insurance industry.
HEDIS performance is reported by each Primary Care
Physician (PCP) including the list of members due for each
measure to facilitate the PCP in administering the
required measures. At the health plan level, it identifies
PCPs and their members due for HEDIS measures so medical
management staff can coordinate between PCPs and members
to increase scores.
“Providing real time online information on eligible
members for HEDIS measures involves complex metrics and
extensive medical intelligence and since the PCP is the
key, we provide this information to PCPs to perform and to
the medical management staff to coordinate such care” says
Solomon J. Zak, MD, Sr. VP, Medical and Business
Intelligence at ika Group.
“At ika Group, we constantly innovate and apply existing
state-of-the art portal platform technology and such an
innovation is iProHEDIS, which can substantially reduce
chart review costs and yet well exceed national HEDIS
benchmark criteria.”

Presbyterian Health Plan's implements ika Groups'
iEnterprise suite as a total solution for its individual
business administration.
Southborough (April 3, 2007) - Presbyterian Health Plan (PHP)
went live on April 2, 2007 after completing the first
phase of its implementation of the iEnterprise solution
suite for its individual business line. As a result PHP
has effectively streamlined and automated a number
processes including sales, underwriting, enrollment and
customer service functions related to sales. The system's
automated underwriting module enables PHP to sell to
prospective members without any human hands touching the
application - completely automating all processes from the
initial quote to a HIPAA compliant 834 feed to its claims
system.
As part of the next phase PHP will implement iEnterprise's
off-cycle changes, e-billing and commissions management
modules. PHP will also incorporate ika Group' robust sales
force automation module into the system, which will
provide the necessary competitive advantage in a more
retail oriented environment.
This is one of the many steps PHP is taking to achieve its
strategic objectives to improve business agility in the
sales, underwriting and administrative processes of its
commercial business lines.
PHP's next steps will be to implement
iEnterprise to
streamline and automate the sales, underwriting and a
majority of the administrative processes of its small and
large group businesses, enabling it to automate a number
of other important processes as well such as renewal
rating and financial forecasting.
About Presbyterian Health Plan
Presbyterian Health Plan serves more than 400,000
commercial, Medicare and Medicaid members throughout New
Mexico and is the state's largest health plan. PHP is part
of Presbyterian Healthcare Services, a private,
not-for-profit integrated delivery system and the state's

Unity Health increases enrollment and renewal process
efficiency with iEnterprise system
SAUK CITY, WI - Dec. 7, 2006 – ika Group of Companies
today announced that Unity Health Insurance of Sauk City
processed 100 renewals in about 20 minutes - right after
the renewal module of the Sales Portal went live on Nov.
21.
Implementation discussions for the iEnterprise System,
which replaced manual paper-based processes at Unity,
began in December 2005. The Sales, Underwriting and Admin
Portals went live July 11. The Employer and Member Portals
went live in October, and the Sales Portal went live in
November. The self-service web portals represent the
iEnterprise System, which is designed to streamline and
automate a health plan's business processes. These include
quoting and proposal generation, plan selection,
application submission and medical underwriting. The
health plan chose a license model, enabling it to maintain
the web portals completely on its own.
For health plans, one key way to increase profitability is
to streamline the plan renewal process. This process can
be automated to a great degree by iEnterprise. The
system's Sales Portal provides pre-renewal and batch
renewal notifications to support the processes. It creates
renewal and proposal documents and features customizable
templates that are clear and easy to understand. It also
generates and coordinates the distribution of renewal or
policy change information, quickly informing brokers of a
group's status.
According to Radovan Bursac, Vice President of Finance for
Unity, brokers and internal sales representatives for the
health plan previously managed renewals by manually
entering data into an Excel spreadsheet and reviewing it
periodically. Now, the Sales Portal calculates renewal
information from a feed from Unity's database, informing
the broker by automatic alerts when a group is up for
renewal.
"It takes only 20 minutes, so we are saving 25 to 30 hours
on that manual portion of the process," says Bursac.
"Initially, we hadn't chosen the portals because of the
renewal automation," Bursac continues. "But the efficiency
we have gained on the renewal side is extraordinary, and
greatly exceeds our expectations when it comes to
providing us with the ability to retain and bring in new
business."
In addition, Unity is now seeing gains in quoting volume
since the Sales Portal went live. Internal sales
representatives and brokers used the Sales Portal to
process quotes, and groups are now using the enrollment
capabilities of the Member Portal since the portal went
live in October.
"We can see that a tremendous amount of efficiency can be
gained here," says Bursac.
Since the Underwriting Portal went live, underwriters no
longer have to use an Excel spreadsheet to conduct the
rating process. The module's rating engine now
automatically configures rates for underwriters.
The paper-based system at Unity was in need of vast
improvement. Unity selected ikaSystems' Sales,
Underwriting, Admin, Broker, Employer and Member Portals
because of their ability to bring extraordinary efficiency
to the managed-care cycle.
"We are exceptionally pleased with the results, and we
will continue to see improvements from it," says Bursac.
"We are getting new quoting activity, and ultimately this
will bring more membership."

Parkview Health Plan Services Improves
Auto-Adjudication Rate With ika Group' iClaims Solution
FORT WAYNE, IN - Dec. 4, 2006 - ika Group today announced
that the iClaims system went live at Parkview Health Plan
Services on Monday, Oct. 30 as the first batch of EDI
claims was smoothly processed. Implementation for the
solution, which replaced a legacy system at Parkview,
began March 1, 2006.
iClaims is a rule-based system that allows health plans to
upload benefit plans and provider contracts online. It
includes more than 13 comprehensive modules and provides a
comprehensive physician profiling system that defines the
total health plan's quality vs. the performance of each
individual primary care physician.
For health plans, one way of streamlining claims
processing is to increase the adjudication rate. With
iClaims, benefit plans and provider contracts are inserted
online at a very high level of granularity. This enables
the system to auto adjudicate claims in the 95% range.
Parkview Health Plan Services was in need of an efficient
claims processing system, and it selected
iClaims. The
health plan chose an ASP model, so the hardware and
software maintenance for the solution is completely
handled at ika Group ' headquarters in Southborough, MA.
This enables Parkview employees and users to utilize the
portals and solutions with an Internet connection from
anywhere in the world. Meanwhile, the solutions' EDI
transactions have streamlined processes and greatly
reduced the need for manual data entry.
The iClaims system now completely automates claims
processing at Parkview. According to Philip Henneman,
Director of Clinical and Technical Operations for Health
Plan Services, Parkview's legacy claims system featured a
sluggish auto-adjudication engine that utilized an
inferior and obsolete programming language. By comparison,
the iClaims system provides a newer platform that allows
more flexibility for configuring benefits and provider
contracts, resulting in significantly increased
auto-adjudication rates. ika Group quickly migrated and
converted all of the data from the legacy system into the
iClaims system. Whereas Parkview's legacy system produced
auto adjudication rates of about 30 to 40% of only one
segment of claims, the iClaims system provided
auto-adjudication rates of 80 to 85% during its first EDI
load. Henneman says Parkview now expects the
iClaims
system to consistently provide auto-adjudication rates of
90 to 95%.
"The flexibility of the iClaims adjudication engine is
something that we are excited about," says Henneman. "Many
times, with the old system, we had to manually process
claims. With the ika Group solution, this will no longer
be necessary."
ika Group also integrated the
iClaims system with Parkview
Health's Optical Character Recognition software. This
useful tool helps claims processors at Parkview identify a
specific claim by image. The iClaims system also provided
Parkview with innovative tools that are helping the health
plan take a creative approach to profitable contracting
and negotiating pricing agreements with employer groups
and provider networks. These are enabling Parkview to
offer a variety of products and provider networks to
employer groups. ika Group integrated its call center with
all of the modules in the iClaims system, helping Parkview
Health's customer service representatives resolve appeals
and grievances quickly and accurately.
In addition, Parkview selected the Member and Employer web
portals, which are part of the iEnterprise System. Testing
is now being completed. The Member and Employer portals
integrate business processes, enable the plan to collate
key information into one system and empower users to make
more effective strategic, tactical and operational
decisions.
The Member and Employer Portals will enable groups that
join Parkview Health Plan Services to select their
coverage plans online. This will eliminate many manual,
paper-based processes and significantly reduce the health
plan's administrative costs. Henneman says Parkview will
use the Employer Portal to promote Signature Care, its
regional PPO plan, which will enable the health plan to
gain new membership. By using the Employer Portal, the
Parkview Health Human Resources Department will be
relieved of all the manual work involved in the
administration of employee benefits.
"The Employer Portal will allow for open enrollment," says
Henneman. "Prior to this, we did everything manually. Now,
these processes will be completed electronically. This
will allow for fewer errors."

Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic
States Selects ikaInternational
Group’ Total Business Solution for
its Individual Product
Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States is implementing
ikaInternational
Group’ Sales and Admin Portal technology
as a total solution for its individual business. ikaInternational
Group’ robust technology platform connects
brokers and consumers through an automated application
process that includes web-based health insurance quote
generation, online application submission, and back-end
support for medical underwriting.
“We are excited to expand our online capabilities
with ikaInternational
Group. This partnership will give our applicants
access to the next level of customer service and enhance
their ability to compare our plans in order to make
informed health care choices,” explains Thomas
A. Curtin, vice president of marketing, strategy and
business development.
The ikaInternational
Group platform will enable Kaiser Permanente
to increase sales of their individual product and
decrease administrative costs associated with manual
health insurance application processing.
Through the Sales portal, brokers can access critical information online in real-time and respond faster to customers’ needs to see dynamic views of health insurance options, which is imperative for success in today’s marketplace. Brokers can direct consumers to Kaiser Permanente’s consumer portal, where consumers can compare plans and apply for coverage online. This directed approach enables brokers to channel business toward Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States’ consumer portal. Consumers can then compare plans and apply for coverage online.
Integrating the consumer and broker pieces of the
application process provides online collaboration,
which will increase consumer interest in Kaiser Permanente’s
offerings and increase sales. Administrative costs
will decrease as well.
Kaiser Permanente of Georgia Implements Web-Enabled Consumer Portal for its Personal Advantage Product
Consumers can now apply online for health insurance
through Kaiser Permanente of Georgia’s Personal
Advantage online consumer portal, which is powered
by the Massachusetts-based ikaInternational
Group’ enterprise-wide technology platform
– the ikaEnterprise System. Kaiser
Permanente’s Personal Advantage product has
several plan offerings targeting the individual market.
“Since implementing the portal just over a month
ago, we’ve received 1,116 Personal Advantage
applications,” said Nancy Melton, Kaiser Permanente’s
Personal Advantage Product Manager. “This represents
a significant increase over any previous month in
the past year.”
“Consumer response to Kaiser Permanente’s
online application process has been positive. Since
launching ikaInternational
Group’ technology, support calls from
consumers regarding the application process have significantly
decreased and the online application process has vastly
improved,” said Melton. “The ikaInternational
Group’ robust online functionality
is enabling us to far exceed consumer expectations.”
Kaiser Permanente’s Personal Advantage online portal connects brokers and consumers through an automated application process that includes web-based health insurance quote generation, online application submission, and back-end support for medical underwriting. Integrating the consumer and broker pieces of the application process provides online collaboration. Registered brokers can initiate a quote on the consumer’s behalf, and in effect, create a “blue-print” of suggested plans. The broker can then send an e-mail to the consumer that contains a link to the consumer portal. This directed approach enables brokers to channel business toward Kaiser Permanente’s Personal Advantage consumer portal. Consumers can then compare plans and apply for coverage online.
